What is the best way to train a dog on a leash?
My puppy is a laboratory for three months.
begin to get the puppy a pass first. once it is used for the collar, attach the leash and just let him walk around the house with the leash to get used to sensation of weight. Then pick up the leash and hold it in your hand. This will help your puppy get used to the new sensation and weight without stress. Always supervise if the leaves do not get tangled around the puppy or on the furniture and cause choking or injury. when you take the pup outside, put on leash and enable it to take the lead first with a gentle strength of your hand. If it breaks or pulls hard at the end of the leash, stop immediately and catch gently say no and put him into a sit. if he continues pulling back gently tug on the leash and say no, put it in a sit and try again. Use keywords with his heel when you hold the leash short and keep to your side, not when he pulls or jumps. use a lot of praise physically and reward with petting when he is working as it should. Never hit and inflict verbal punishment (bad dog, etc.) very sparingly. on my own dogs, I much prefer a harness instead of a training collar and leash walking. I raised and trained Dobies, Rotter and shepherds and use the "no pull" harness. These tightening up around the shoulders and chest when the dog pulls or tries to walk faster than you do the rhythm and make the dog slow down or stop without the pressure around the throat of a regular collar. I do not "suffocate" I hate collars and necklaces link metallic stab when they shake. good luck and enjoy the puppy!
